Lal Batman is a multidisciplinary artist who constructs visually charged, chaotic and cinematographic compositions by intertwining imagery and material languages from various temporal and cultural contexts. Through this exchange of historical and contemporary aesthetics, she constructs complex layers of meaning, while simultaneously interrogating artistic hierarchies and examining how personal and collective identities are shaped. Her process often begins with the development of a digital infrastructure—a conceptual primer that anchors each piece. She then intervenes in these digitally printed surfaces with oil paint, pearls, and synthetic stones, initiating a dialogue between image and material.
Batman’s practice fluidly moves between disciplines such as sound, video, sculpture, and installation, each medium deepening the spatial and affective impact of her work. By embedding cinematic rhythms within her production, she evokes both visual and auditory resonances, allowing her pieces to act as conduits for layered cultural and historical references. Viewing art as a form of critical inquiry, Batman explores how remnants of the past echo within present-day collective memory. Her work creates bridges between temporal registers, encouraging reflection on the entanglement of cultural legacies and contemporary narratives. Emphasizing intercultural dialogues, she resists fixed categories, instead generating hybrid forms that expand the vocabulary of contemporary visual language.
