PİLEVNELİ was founded in 2017 by Murat Pilevneli in Istanbul’s Dolapdere district, with the vision of becoming one of the most influential actors in the global contemporary art landscape. Representing artists of both national and international significance, the gallery is recognized for its forward-looking, interdisciplinary curatorial program that pushes the boundaries of artistic expression.
The main exhibition space in Dolapdere functions as an integral component of PİLEVNELİ’s artistic program, offering a flexible and transformable environment for the production and presentation of contemporary art. The ability to reconfigure the space for each exhibition reflects the gallery’s vision of approaching art, space, production, and content as an inseparable whole. Beyond its primary venue, PİLEVNELİ has expanded its program through site-specific and temporary projects realized in diverse geographies and architectural contexts, including Mecidiyeköy Liqueur Factory, Kaplankaya, and Bodrum Yalıkavak. These initiatives reinforce the gallery’s context-sensitive and experience-driven approach, extending contemporary art beyond the conventional boundaries of the gallery space.
