LOOP LAB BUSAN: 1ST EDITION

24 - 26 April 2025

PİLEVNELİ is delighted to announce its participation in Loop Lab Busan alongside Refik Anadol!

Loop Lab Busan, the first Asian edition of the Barcelona-based new media art festival LOOP, will take place in Busan, South Korea’s second-largest city, from April 10 to June 10, 2025. As part of the festival, an art fair dedicated to time-based media art will be held at Grand Josun Busan from April 24 to 26, marking the first of its kind in Asia.

At Booth 1335, PILEVNELI will present Machine Hallucinations — LNM: Coral, a work by Refik Anadol. Created from a massive dataset of approximately 100 million images of coral, LNM: Coral is a data sculpture that draws attention to the fragile ecosystems of coral reefs. Offering an immersive simulated ocean habitat, the piece stands out as a striking example of Anadol’s ability to merge environmental awareness with cutting-edge technology. It is part of the artist’s Machine Hallucinations – Large Nature Model series, developed using a nature-focused, open-source generative AI model.

Machine Hallucinations – Large Nature Model is a diptych series produced using the Large Nature Model, the first open-source generative AI model grounded in nature, developed by Refik Anadol Studio. During this extensive research process, Refik Anadol and his team ethically utilized open-source data from leading institutions such as the Smithsonian Institution, National Geographic, and the Natural History Museum in London. The resulting massive archive presents a vast spectrum of biodiversity, ranging from the unique ecosystems of rainforests to fauna, flora, fungi, corals, and landscapes.

Organized in collaboration with LOOP Barcelona and A Fluxion, Loop Lab Busan brings together international galleries, experimental art institutions, and independent artists. The festival is specifically designed to showcase digital art forms such as media installations, non-fungible tokens (NFTs), virtual reality (VR), and augmented reality (AR). One of the festival’s main highlights will be digital media art exhibitions held across 23 different venues throughout the city. In addition, the Busan Museum of Art (BMA) will present Digital Subculture, an outdoor exhibition that spans the museum gardens, offering a new perspective on the relationship between digital art and physical space.
